Chelsea Oliver | June 9, 2015

Social media is all about engagement and, when it comes to Twitter, your header photo is your company’s first line of representation. An opportunity to represent your brand in your way, it welcomes visitors to your profile and imparts a strong first impression. A quick look at what you’re all about, it’s important that your cover photo is the best it can be. Read on for 5 hacks guaranteed to boost your presence online.

Stay Relevant

Stay on top of your industry’s latest trends, holidays, the current season and more to demonstrate that your brand is always relevant. Switching out your Twitter cover photo to ones designed specifically for, for example, spring, Easter, summer, Christmas and more keeps it fresh and demonstrates your awareness.

Showcase Your Promotions

Your cover photo is the ideal place to showcase current promotions and sales. The first thing users see when they visit your Twitter account, it’s ideal real estate for sharing a new campaign. For example, an up-and-coming TV network could advertise the time and date of their first season premiere or a fast food restaurant could promote a 2-4-1 deal on burgers or tacos.

Include a Hashtag

Launching a new campaign? Include the hashtag in your cover photo! This is an excellent way to invite users to engage in your brand’s online conversations, boost followers and get the word out there. If you’re going to go this route, be sure to keep the rest of the image simple and avoid busy backgrounds that make it difficult to read the hashtag.

Stay Consistent

Cover and profile photos are a great way to develop a consistent visual identity for your brand online. Choose a similar theme, design or topic for your Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Google+ and other profiles. For example, if you choose to showcase a new sale in your header photos, opt for a similar design and layout and differentiate between your profiles using colour and content.

Perfect Product Placement

Your company sells something – why not take advantage of Twitter for easy, effective product placement? Great photography sells and showcasing your product or service in an appealing, visually engaging way can boost followers, website traffic and, ultimately, sales. Even more abstract services, such as digital marketing, can be creatively represented.
